Saving Francesca: Character description
Character Name: Francesca Spinelli
Symbolism of Name: Francesca means freedom and in the book this character is trying to become free from her all her toubles and find her identity and who she is. The Author chose this name to symbolise this.
Speech: The character Francesca was brought up with good manners and she is well spoken. I think that Francesca holds back her thoughts by not speaking to people about her ideas or feelings. This could be because she is shy or reserved. Francesca uses slag and swear words a couple of times while speaking to her friends and arguing with her dad throughout the novel.
Appearance: Francesca is a tall 16 year old girl with long brown hair. In the book it doesn’t really describe much about how she looks or dresses. I’m guessing she dresses neatly because of the way she is brought up.
Actions: I think the character Francesca can come across shy to some of the other characters especially some of the boys at her school. At the start of the novel she doesn’t really react well with anyone. Maybe its because Francesca’s at a new school, new people or because of the problem her mum is going through. She seems uncomfortable at the school she is at. Because of the way Francesca acts to different people it gives an impact on the story that she doesn’t feel that she fits in with any group and doesn’t know her identity.
Other: I think Francesca is a normal stereotypical teenage girl. It would be hard for someone to come out of there comfort zone with a tight bunch of friends into a school when you feel like no one what’s you there and you don’t belong.
