Saving Francesca: Character description
Character Name: Francesca Spinelli
Symbolism of Name: Francesca means freedom and in the book this character is trying to become free from her all her toubles and find her identity and who she is. The Author chose this name to symbolise this.
Speech: The character Francesca was brought up with good manners and she is well spoken. I think that Francesca holds back her thoughts by not speaking to people about her ideas or feelings. This could be because she is shy or reserved. Francesca uses slag and swear words a couple of times while speaking to her friends and arguing with her dad throughout the novel.
Appearance: Francesca is a tall 16 year old girl with long brown hair. In the book it doesn’t really describe much about how she looks or dresses. I’m guessing she dresses neatly because of the way she is brought up.
Actions: I think the character Francesca can come across shy to some of the other characters especially some of the boys at her school. At the start of the novel she doesn’t really react well with anyone. Maybe its because Francesca’s at a new school, new people or because of the problem her mum is going through. She seems uncomfortable at the school she is at. Because of the way Francesca acts to different people it gives an impact on the story that she doesn’t feel that she fits in with any group and doesn’t know her identity.
Other: I think Francesca is a normal stereotypical teenage girl. It would be hard for someone to come out of there comfort zone with a tight bunch of friends into a school when you feel like no one what’s you there and you don’t belong.
Film Review: Lake Placid
A thrilling comedy that will keep you from swimming in even the most placid lakes. A man eating crocodile loose in a quiet remote lake. Lake Placid begins in Black Lake with a sickening attack on a man who gets eaten alive while driving in the lake. The local rangers and police have no idea what happened only guessing he got to close to a propeller of a boat or a grizzly bear attacked him. But the thing is grizzly bears don’t usually attack under water and the only boat on the lake was anchored down.
In the next scene they introduce the main characters, the local Sheriff Jake Wells (Bill Pullman) who is lonely and depressed after the death of his wife and a New York Palaeontologist Kelly Scott (Bridget Fonda) who just broke up with her boyfriend/boss. They both meet while studying the attack on the deceased man.
After seeing another fatal attack on a police officer they then realise the creature is a 30ft crocodile. They all plan to remove the dangerous croc out of Black Lake before it attacks another victim. But its harder then they think. With unexpected twists at the end you will be sitting on the edge of your seat always knowing that even the most placid lakes can hold the most terrifying creatures.
I think Lake Placid was a good movie. It was a bit predictable throughout the start and middle of the movie. I thought the twists at the end of Lake Placid were good, I didn’t see it coming. It was scary at some parts and funny at others. I thought it had a good plot and ending.
